10 Lies the Church Tells Women by J. Lee Grady
This book is an excellent and easy read about the history of the church and the distortion of women's roles in Christianity. It is an excellent compliment to "What Paul Really Said about Women".
What Paul Really Said about Women by John Temple Bristow
This is great commentary to understanding God's word about gender in the original language that the New Testament was written in - Koine Greek.
The Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind by Bill Johnson
This is a wonderful book about experiencing the miraculous things of God. It makes supernatural living normal.
The Book of Enoch
The
Book of Enoch is not considered to be Holy Spirit breathed thus it
was never canonized. The only denomination who recognizes this work
as inspired is the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The Book of Enoch is
believed to have been written by Enoch himself before the Lord took
him. This work describes both historic and spiritual events that were
occurring before the time of Noah.
It describes the nephilim and their destruction upon the earth and the events leading up to the flood after the death of Methuselah. This work is where we see the Lord referred to as the Ancient of Days. This work displays God's mercy towards His creation by bringing judgement upon the corrupted seed of mankind that has been intermixed with fallen beings. In the first chapter Enoch refers to himself as being one who will partake in the tribulation - as many people have hypothesized that Enoch will be one of the two prophets who will come to earth after the rapture as told in the book of Revelation. The book of Enoch also begins with stating that this work was made for a future generation to partake of. I think this book makes for an interesting read and makes for good Bible discussion concerning the events that are mentioned.
Online Book
After reading some of this long work, I came to the conclusion that real life is definitely stranger than fiction... and way more interesting.
The Book of Jasher
Online Book
The Book of Jasher or The Book of the Upright is not considered to be inspired by the Holy Spirit so it was never canonized. It is considered a historical work. The author is unknown. The book gives details about the lives of the descendants of Adam and begins with the story of the creation of man as stated in Genesis. Most notably, the work details the birth of Abraham and how he was brought up in the ways of the Lord under Noah and his son Shem's tutelage. The book also gives some details concerning the life of Moses. This work is very intriguing and gives a lot to discussion concerning the lives of biblical patriarchs.
I have not finished reading this work completely through due to its length. However, I soon realized that there are many details that we do not know about the people who God chose to place in His Word concerning their lives and experiences.
Concerning books that are a part of the Apocrypha, please be discerning. There are many other books that I read through that did not quite bear right with my spirit or that contradicted God's Word. Be aware that the devil seeks to imitate God.
The reason I listed the Book of Enoch and the Book of Jasher as good material for reading is because they are mentioned in the Bible.
Book of Enoch:
Jude 1:14-15
And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
See Enoch 1:9 for comparison
And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones To execute judgement upon all, And to destroy all the ungodly:
And to convict all flesh Of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed, And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.
Please give room for Bible version variation.
Book of Jasher:
Joshua 10:13
And
the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had
avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the
book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and
hasted not to go down about a whole day.
2 Samuel 1:18
(Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.)
